Suzlon organized an awareness programme on Dengue prevention in Melailandakulam village, Tirunelveli

  • The awareness programme was attended by 2,000 villagers
  • 500 litres of Nilavembu Kudineer(medicine prepared from herbs)was distributed to 2,000 villagers

Tirunelveli: Suzlon Foundation, in partnership with the Association for Integrated Rural Development
(AIRD) and representatives of Melailandakulam village, organised an awareness programme on the
prevention of Dengue and other water borne diseases. The initiative was undertaken to educate the
villagers on the prevention of, and methods to cure, water borne diseases, especially with the recent
heavy rains in Tamil Nadu.

In addition to raising awareness, Nilavembu Kudineer, a potent anti-viral medicine against viruses
causing Dengue and Chikungunya fevers, was distributed to 2,000 villagers who attended the
programme. The medicine is recognized by the government health department as an effective
treatment during epidemics.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Jasmine Sofia Gogia, General Manager, Suzlon Foundation said,
“Given that dengue cases are increasing at an alarming rate, it is imperative to spread awareness on the
causes of dengue and the preventive measures. It was a collaborative effort with the support of doctors
from nearby hospitals, the village panchayat and active participation of the villagers. Suzlon endeavours
to achieve social, economic and ecological development around all its areas of operations.”
