Our story

From one energy challenge to a renewable energy journey with global reach, we have kept moving with one belief: good energies should help industries, communities and nations progress responsibly.

1992-1995

A new energy path begins

  • Wind energy in India was still in its early years, with cumulative installation at 42 MW in 1992.
  • Frequent power outages within Tulsi Tanti's textile business uncovered a larger need for dependable power.
  • Wind became the answer to unreliable supply and rising energy costs.
  • Suzlon was founded in 1995 with a belief in renewable energy, self-reliance, and long-term responsibility.

1995-2000

From conviction to an operating model

  • The first 0.27 MW wind installation was completed for a client within three months.
  • We began building an end-to-end wind model across R&D, manufacturing, and operations & maintenance.
  • The wind park model accelerated renewable energy adoption among businesses and PSUs.
  • By 2000, India's wind energy installations had grown to 1,155 MW.

2001-2009

Indian renewable capability goes global

  • We took globally benchmarked, affordable wind technology to the developed renewable energy markets.
  • Our footprint expanded across 17 countries and six continents.
  • Global R&D centres in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and India strengthened our technology base.
  • By 2005, Suzlon became among the top 10 wind manufacturers in the world.

2010-2019

Resilience strengthens the journey

  • The decade tested the renewable energy sector and sharpened our focus on resilience.
  • We continued building on integrated capability across technology, execution and lifecycle support.
  • Suzlon's journey became a reference point for global academic and business case studies.
  • The period reinforced what continues to guide us: disciplined action, long-term relationships, and responsible growth.

2020-Present

Renewed momentum for the next era

  • We continue to advance integrated renewable energy systems across wind, solar, storage, and emerging technologies.
  • Our work has earned recognition across sustainability, manufacturing, service, ESG, and talent development.
  • We became a member of the United Nations Global Compact.
  • We joined Climate Group's RE100 and EV100 to advance decarbonisation.
  • We were featured in the 2026 Global Clean200 list.
