Day 5 at Rio+20
In my last day in Rio +20 I was part of a discussion focused on the development of integrated and sustainable cities, held at the Rio Conventions Pavilion with the participation of political representatives of countries such as Brazil, South Africa, Argentina and Spain. Is was a good chance to demonstrate our commitment with the emerging companies, and talk about how wind energy can make a contribution to the creation or more sustainable cities, in terms of providing clean energy security by means of decentralization, diversification and, in the case of Brazil, complementarity of the hydro-based Brazilian energy matrix.
The theme of sustainable cities and how we can contribute to that was in my opinion an excellent way to close our participation in Rio +20, as it is related to a need of concrete action, not tomorrow, but today. At his final day in Rio, I realize that this was the most important message that Suzlon was able to deliver throughout the conference: we can’t only talk, we have to act. I feel very proud to have represented the Suzlon community in this conference, and thank all the support I received from all the involved to make it happen.

Day 4 at Rio+20
Being in a summit such as Rio +20 gives us the opportunity of interacting with a variety of stakeholders. On Wednesday my day was focused on talking with journalists from different media vehicles, about our participation in the event as well as our activities in Brazil and worldwide. At Suzlon we consider the relation with the media a very important way to stablish a dialogue with the national and international community, which could not be achieved otherwise. That's why we give so much importance to this interaction.
Tomorrow it will be another busy day in terms of meetings and discussions with diverse entities in Rio +20. The city receives everyday more and more representatives to the summit, and by the atmosphere around us I can say that all particpants are committed to make of this event a very fruitfull one. As Suzlon, we are doing our best to achieve that!

Day 3 at Rio+20
Discussions in Rio today gave me the opportunity to talk about a theme which is most central in Suzlon: our capacity to adapt to the local culture and needs wherever we go. The Trade and Sustainable Development Symposium, held by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD), was a great chance to discuss inovation, technology, industrial policy in order to enable sustainability and inclusive green growth with panelists from the World Bank, UNICA, the Brazilian Sugar Cane Industry Association, the Indian Council of Energy, Environment and Water, among others.
While in the panel, it came to my mind how Brasil and India markets are similar in so many ways, specially about the necessity of knowing your customer and adapting to its needs. Customization is the key for our success in every country we operate, but specially in Brazil - that's where the technology and research components have great importance. It was only by knowing and hearing our customers for this past six years that we were able to grow and install 390 MW of wind energy in the country, helping to develop the great green potential of Brazil.
Today Suzlon was also able to participate in a second panel, being represented by Nick Archer, VP of the Group for Public Relations and Public Affairs, in a discussion runned by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) about green economy and inclusive growth for a sustainable future. It was again a good opportunity to share with the participants our efforts in contributing to create a green economy, not only showing how we intend do that in the future, but mostly how we do that everyday.

Day 2 at Rio+20
Today I had a busy and very productive day at RIO+20. It started off with the official launch of the CLEAN REVOLUTION program, supporting the Climate group. Along with Phillips, the Monaco principality, the Quebec premier and several other institutions and NGOs, we spoke about the role of the leadership in this process and the role of Suzlon as a key supporter. With an audience of almost 200 global business and society leaders and ample media coverage, it was a great moment for Suzlon to show how we’re powering our greener tomorrow.
Later in the day I visited the Rio Pavillion, the main exposition and discussion arena. The setup is impressive, with dozens of country and company booths and sustainability related expositions. Under the United Nations Environmental Program, Suzlon debated the importance of strategy and technology to speed up the integration of green economies. In that debate there was the participation of big companies like GE, British Telecom, Codelco and others, among R&D institutes and Universities. The highlight was Suzlon's position as a company able to integrate technical solutions in order to bring fast and secure energy.

Day 1 at Rio +20
At my first participation on Rio +20 commitments, I already had the chance to discuss what we at Suzlon consider as three of the most important topics when it comes to sustainability: food, energy and water. The panel on how businness can contribute to the sustainable energy access, on the Business for the Environment (B4E) conference, was an opportunity to present point of views and concrete actions needed to achieve a sustainable energy access in a global way. I was pleased to share some of the experience we have in Suzlon in Brazil and as a Group, and how wind energy can contribute to this goal, when it comes to decentralization of the energy, complementarity with the current Brazilian hydro-based energy matrix, and energy security. The inputs from the discussion panel will be integrated into the B4E message to be delivered at Rio+20, and I'm glad to have had the chance of being part of this important moment. Tomorrow it will be a busy day, with a participation on the Rio+20 Conventions Pavilion Business Day, and at The Climate Group's launch of the Clean Revolution.

Rio +20: opportunity to make a difference
It’s been twenty years now since world leaders, NGOs, business representatives and members of society gathered together in Rio for UN’s Rio 92, the Earth Summit. The reason was the extreme urgency of transforming our relationship with the environment. Since then, a lot has changed in terms of how we think and act towards the major question discussed back then: how we can combine economic development and sustainability.
Today, after two decades, we still have a long way to go in order to answer this question, but we do have a powerful tool to help us. The popularization of the renewable energy is a big part of the solution. Suzlon’s 17 years in the wind energy sector across the world have shown that renewable sources contribute not only to increase access to energy, but to create development, jobs, improve education, and the most important, in a sustainable, green way. And, as CEO of Suzlon Brazil, it’s this exciting experience that I want to share during my participation in Rio +20. We believe, since 1995, that a greener tomorrow can be powered with our ideas and actions. Let’s again put all hands together to help creating this future we want.
